About Steel Life:
Steel Life's Shannon Lester is a landscape designer in Bend, Oregon. Shannon designed commercial and urban residential landscapes in the greater Portland area for 5 years before settling in Bend and starting her own landscape design-build company in 2004 with her husband, Drew Lester. Shannon has discovered a need for modern and architecturally interesting planters and home decor over the past two years, which has led to her new product line, Steel Life.
Lester places great importance on using American-made, raw and upcycled materials whenever possible and tries to support thePacific Northwest’s economy by working directly alongside her team of local artisans and small business owners.
“Growing up in one of the few, solar powered homes in Southern Oregon at the time, I have always considered myself a preservationist of the natural environment,” says Lester. “I remember hammering together creations out of my father’s wood scraps from his shop. Still after 30 years, I am rummaging through unwanted materials that can be up cycled into desirable, functional products.”
Shannon is an active garden blogger for Blooming Desert’s Daily Dirt and enjoys connecting with other garden enthusiasts through social networks facebook and pinterest. Shannon has also been a contributor to This Old House magazine, Landscaping Network.com and Fine Gardening magazine.
